|Event Introduction||‘The number of people identifying as lesbian, gay or bisexual (LGB) has hit a record high in the UK, new figures show.
Data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows the figure increased by 50,000 in 2017, with the proportion of the population up from 1.5 per cent in 2012 to 2 per cent in 2017.’ (Independent, 2019)
The workshop will raise awareness of the continued challenges that impact the LGBTQIA+ community. You will have the opportunity to reflect on your worldview about sexuality and gender. We will deconstruct the discourses in society, which influences thinking, perception and actions in the workplace around this subject. The workshop is aimed to provide participants the chance to consider how they create an inclusive workplace for LGBTQIA+ community.
This session will take place virtually and joining instructions will be emailed 24 hours before the start of the workshop.
|Event Content||The workshop will explore how ideas about sexuality and gender are constructed in our society and influences our daily interactions within the workplace. You will have an opportunity to engage in constructive conversations with peers in small group discussions. You will be introduced to concepts that will aid in developing your thinking on this subject matter.
We will consider how heteronormative worldview can marginalize particular groups in the LGBTQIA+ community, which can be reflected in our working environments. Also, we will examine our use of language and pronouns in our daily interactions.
There will be taught elements of the workshop, which will allow participants to go away with some learning to apply to their daily practice and interactions. Also, I will be reliant on video clips, case studies and reflective exercises throughout the day.
This session will be delivered by Hendrix Hammond. Hendrix is a systemic psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor. He is the systemic lead in Croydon children social care department. He has 13 years of clinical experience working in Social Care, YOT, Schools and CAMHS. Hendrix is passionate about supporting people to have meaningful conversations and has delivered training to various settings on ‘race’, difference and sexuality.
|Event Learning Outcomes||By the end of the workshop delegates will be able to:
• Reflect on your own views about sexuality and gender.
• Consider use of language and pronouns.
• Explore how they demonstrate allyship to people from the LGBTQIA+ community.
• Develop an understanding of the particular issues important to LGBTQIA+ community in the workplace.
• Describe the main issues in the thinking and talking about sexuality and gender.
• Apply strategies to enable you to create working environments that are inclusive and supportive of people from the LGBTQIA+ community.
