eLearning: Stay Safe Online

There is so much cyber security advice available these days, many people find it hard to know where to start. Some organisations struggle to explain why cyber security is something that all staff should care about. Even larger organisations (with dedicated training resources) find it difficult to explain the technical aspects of cyber security in ways that are relevant to their staff, so that they can help keep their organisations (and themselves) safe from cyber attack.

Equally, many small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and charities may not have the resources to put any cyber security ...

eLearning: Information Sharing

‘Information sharing is vital to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. A key factor identified in many serious case reviews (SCRs) has been a failure by practitioners to record information, to share it, to understand its significance and then take appropriate action’ (HM Government, Information sharing, 2015).

They provide information about the sequence of events which brought about Children’s Social Care intervention into their life and (in many instances) explain the reasons for decisions about their care. These can be key to helping a child to understand themselves and their past. It may also be helpful for the child in later life when they want to understand more about their childhood.

Records also help to make sure that situations are clearly understood and this can help if allegations are made against you. They may also be ...

Permanent (Long-Term Matching) Foster Care (Cancelled)

“Most children who cannot live with their birth family, or with kinship carers or family and friends carers outside the looked after system, will be fostered. There should be no hierarchy when it comes to permanence options; long-term foster care should have equal consideration as a permanence option alongside other options such as adoption and, in England and Wales, special guardianship. What is best for each child or young person will depend on individual factors. “ (Fostering Network 2021)

This training session is an extension of ‘Permanency Planning’ for children who are at risk of com ...

Learning Lessons Reviews (Cancelled)

Working together 2018 sets out that the child protection processes in England involve a ‘complex multi-agency system with many different organisations and individuals playing their part. Reflecting on how well that system is working is critical as we constantly seek to improve our collective public service response to children and their families.’

Since 2016 in AfC we have carried out various learning lessons reviews and these have been held jointly with partners in the Kingston and Richmond Children Safeguarding partnership (previously LSCB) or single agency internal reviews.
