eLearning: Stay Safe Online

There is so much cyber security advice available these days, many people find it hard to know where to start. Some organisations struggle to explain why cyber security is something that all staff should care about. Even larger organisations (with dedicated training resources) find it difficult to explain the technical aspects of cyber security in ways that are relevant to their staff, so that they can help keep their organisations (and themselves) safe from cyber attack.

Equally, many small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and charities may not have the resources to put any cyber security ...

eLearning: Information Sharing

‘Information sharing is vital to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. A key factor identified in many serious case reviews (SCRs) has been a failure by practitioners to record information, to share it, to understand its significance and then take appropriate action’ (HM Government, Information sharing, 2015).

Research, feedback from national and local SCRs and Lessons Learnt tells us that early intervention and child protection are both dependent on good information sharing practice. Therefore, appropriate and timely information sharing is the key to delive ...

eLearning: Record Keeping for Foster Carers

“A child’s records are an important source of information for them. They provide information about the sequence of events which brought about Children’s Social Care intervention into their life and (in many instances) explain the reasons for decisions about their care. These can be key to helping a child to understand themselves and their past. It may also be helpful for the child in later life when they want to understand more about their childhood.

Records also help to make sure that situations are clearly understood and this can help if allegations are made against you. They may also be ...

eLearning: Cultural Awareness

Culture can describe beliefs, behaviours and traits of an ethnic, social or age demographic. The cultural background of any individual will impact on how they interact with others.

A number of recent Serious Case Reviews (SCRs) have highlighted that professionals working with families may benefit from being upskilled in their knowledge and understanding of working with families from different cultural backgrounds. Learning from these reviews will feed into this course and in doing so the facilitator will aim to build on delegates' understanding of how cultural background will influence the ...

Therapeutic Life Story Work

‘In July 2019, Adoption UK’s adoption barometer found that 27% of new adopters felt that they had not been given all the information they needed about their child or children. Nearly half of new adopters (46%) did not receive their child’s life story book (or equivalent) within statutory timescales and 34% described their child’s life story materials as somewhat or very inadequate. The report stated that where preparation or information sharing had not been thorough, the impact could be devastating – even to the point of placement breakdown. (Community Care, 2020)

Active Listening

We spend on average 75% of our days communicating, with 45% of that time spent listening. Listening underpins all our interactions and so much of work is reliant on effective listening. At school, we learned to read, write and speak, but how much time did we spend learning how to listen? How often do we spend time reflecting on our own listening skills?

This workshop looks to understand active listening and how we can use it to strengthen our relationships. Listening enables us to demonstrate concern and investment. Delegates will learn key techniques and tools to improve their own listen ...
