Introduction to Makaton

‘Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is designed to support spoken language; the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order’ (The Makaton Charity, 2017).

Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) are starting to be recognised as a major barrier in the way of children with care experience, which prevents them from making the progress that is expected of them.
