KRSCP Working with Race, Culture and Belief Systems in the Context of Professional Curiosity Webinar

Professional curiosity is described as thinking beyond a single source of information and considering, holistically, the circumstances of the child and family. It requires asking questions, verifying and checking information, as well as not making assumptions or accepting things at face value.

“While the presence of a potential indicator of neglect does not necessarily mean that a child is being neglected, it will always warrant further investigation. Practitioners must be ‘professionally curious’ to determine further information in the interests of the child. It is essential that professio ...

Family Network Meetings (Richmond and Kingston)

At AfC we have recently introduced the use of family network meetings into our Practice Standards and we want to develop our practitioners to gain more understanding and build confidence in the use of network meetings to support children and young people safety and wellbeing.

Family network meetings are a key aspect of safety planning used in Signs of Safety. You will have heard of the traditional African saying ‘It takes a village to raise a child’. A child who is connected to many people who care for them will almost always have a better life experience and be safer than an isolated child ...

Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Basic Awareness of Boys (EVENT FULL)

The key findings from recent serious case reviews involving children who have been exploited is the necessity for a multi-agency response to addressing the issue of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) in communities, boroughs and nationwide. Local authorities, the metropolitan police and other agencies in Windsor and Maidenhead are working in partnership to identify children and boys at risk of CSE.

According to research carried out by UCL Security and Crime Science (UCL Engineering) , A young man is highly unlikely to disclose to a professional that they are at risk of or experiencing CSE. The ...

Lunch and Learn Session: Serious Case Review (Windsor and Maidenhead)

This is a one hour session on every Friday for all Windsor and Maidenhead AFC Staff to come together, share best practice, and refresh knowledge.

In Achieving for Children we think it is really important that teams and services are able to meet up regularly. What sets this concept apart from other courses is the accessibility and less framed structure of this approach.

The lunch and learn session are important, not just to share a level of expertise but they enable two way, regular communications among employees from different parts of AFC. With practitioner attendance we will be able t ...
