Restorative Practice Facilitator Training Course (Windsor and Maidenhead)

Event Introduction Restorative Practice is a highly effective,approach used to address situations of conflict, build relationships and repair harm by enabling people to communicate effectively and positively. It can be used across a variety of settings, from working with families, in criminal justice, in schools, the workplace and care homes.

This course is for nominated colleagues in Operational area 2. This Restorative Practice Course is accredited by the Restorative Justice Council.

The course is live facilitated online in 10 modules. Joining instructions will be emailed to confirmed bookings 24 hours before the course start date.
Event Content This course take place over 5 morning sessions covering two modules. The training will be delivered using a multimedia approach; PowerPoint, DVD clips and experiential exercises including case studies and small group work.

Given the wide application of Restorative Practice, this course will be specifically tailored to the course participants work setting, with appropriate examples and scenarios.

The comprehensive modules will incorporate the following areas:

• Common interventions models
• The ethos and values of Restorative Practice
• Neuroscience - Shame and the power of empathy
• Needs model
• Listening skills
• Restorative Enquiry Questions
• Emotional Literacy
• Considerations of harm
• Contrasting Retributive and Restorative approaches
• Links to Adverse Childhood Experiences and Trauma
• The two party model of Restorative Enquiry
• Skills practice – the art of engagement
• Skills practice for facilitating restorative meetings
• The history and origins of the Restorative Approaches
• Facilitating Restorative Circles
• The Restorative Facilitator within different settings
• Assessing Risk
• Implementation and Culture Change

This training is delivered by Janine Carroll, Director of Restorative Now, a London UK based organisation. Janine Carroll has over 30 years practitioner and trainer experience.
Event Learning Outcomes At the end of this course delegates will be able to:

• Demonstrate the ability to use effective Restorative Practice facilitation skills, to enable safe and effective facilitation of restorative conversations.
• Evidence careful consideration of risk assessment and safe practice in relation to restorative practice.
• Evidence an understanding of the values and ethos of Restorative Practice; historical and cultural context; relevance in community and criminal justice settings.
• Understand how to facilitate Restorative Circles.
• Relate the values of restorative practice to your work role and draft a strategic implementation plan.
