ADHD Specialist Programme - Understanding and Working with ADHD

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) ‘is thought to affect 3–9% of school-age children and young people in the UK’ (NICE 2013). It is essential that these individuals have a positive experience of care and support. ‘Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is designed to support spoken language; the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order’ (The Makaton Charity, 2017).

SCERTS Follow-up Workshop A (Twickenham) is the first of two follow up workshops in Twickenham for those who attended the SCERTS one day training on March 25th 2019. Delegates from the one day training are expected to attend two follow up implementation workshops (both A & B).

Introduction to ADHD – Level 1

This course will enable practitioners working with children and young people and/or their families to increase their understanding of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The course will provide an overview of what ADHD is and the impact it has upon school and home life. By the end of the day practitioners will have the essential skills and knowledge to better support children and their families locally.
