SPARK Year 4 Writing Remote Judging Session Summer Term (Cancelled)

The removal of national curriculum levels has afforded schools great freedom to assess pupils using their chosen methodology, beyond the statutory assessment points. However, with this freedom comes the anxiety about pupil progress, which is particularly felt across KS2. Following a successful trial during the spring term we are pleased to offer a further summer term Year 4 writing cluster meeting. These meetings aim to develop consistency of judgement in teacher assessment and to provide a benchmark for writing midway through KS2.

This session is for teachers who have already used compara ...

Implications of the new inspection framework on middle leaders

Have you started to prepare for the new inspection framework that’s due to be implemented this September? What do these changes mean for your school and for your middle leaders? In the past, middle leaders were seen as a ‘buffer’ or ‘broker’, an implementer of school policy. There has been a dramatic shift in this thinking, and now inspection practice highlight middle leaders as being:

• Leaders of the curriculum
• Accountable for pupil achievement
• Responsible for the development and monitoring of the quality of teaching and learning
• Experts in the analysis and reporting of data
• R ...

The Laughter Factor

This course will explore the relationship between positive well being and learning for children. It will explore recent research and consider how laughter for children impacts the context for learning and its consolidation.

Rana Esseily (2015) conducted research on babies as young 18 months old, which showed that laughter resulted in babies learning more of the target actions than those in the control group who were not laughing during the learning period. Esseily hypothesizes that laughter may help with learning because dopamine released while laughing enhances learning.
