|Event Introduction||The safeguarding of children is the responsibility of everyone who works with children and young people. This safeguarding session is a single agency session and is only available to those working in schools. Bookings received from organisations that are not a school will be cancelled. Everyone who works with children has a responsibility for keeping them safe. No single practitioner can have a full picture of a child’s needs and circumstances and, if children and families are to receive the right help at the right time, everyone who comes into contact with them has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking prompt action (Working Together to Safeguard Children,2018)
This course will provide organisations with an in house understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures that are essential for all practitioners working with children and young people.
|Event Content||This training is awareness level and is designed to provide practitioners with a brief introduction to the knowledge, skills and the ability required to work in partnership on the processes for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
It is unclear how many children have experienced abuse; however official govt statistics tell us;
• There were 389,430 children in England identified as children in need (March 2017).
• 66,410 new children were made subject to Child Protection plans (March 2017).
The aim of this level 2 Safeguarding training is to:
• To provide an overview of the legal and policy framework of safeguarding and child protection.
• To consider roles and responsibilities.
• To raise awareness of types of abuse, signs and symptoms.
• To provide information about what to do if you have concerns
During the session practitioners will develop an understanding of serious case reviews and the learning derived from each case, resulting in far better awareness about ways to safeguard children and young people.
Practitioners will explore peer on peer abuse and how modern day technology can be used to cause harm to children and young people. Consideration will be given to the factors that increase children’s vulnerability to abuse including children with disabilities.
It is crucial that practitioners have the knowledge and understanding to respond to any safeguarding concerns in a timely manner. ‘Providing early help is more effective in promoting the welfare of children than reacting later. Early help means providing support as soon as a problem emerges, at any point in a child’s life, from the foundation years through to the teenage years. Early help can also prevent further problems arising’(Working Together to Safeguard Children, 2018).
During this session practitioners will be given an overview of safeguarding themes including:
• Forced Marriage
• Honour Based Violence
• Domestic Abuse
• Female Genital Mutilation
The training will incorporate group exercises, scenario based learning and discussion to challenge understanding of safeguarding situations.
|Event Learning Outcomes||On completion of this course delegates will be able to:
• Describe what children and young people want and need to feel safe.
• Demonstrate how values and attitudes can affect our responses.
• Identify how to report safeguarding concerns and the importance of information sharing.
• Identify laws and national guidance relating to safeguarding children.
• Define the criteria for levels of intervention and the role of the Early Help Assessment.
