Following the Children’s Services Information Workshops, held in April 2019, this session was developed to support partner agencies with referrals to the SPA and Early Help services.

Staff from a variety of agencies and partners are invited to attend this one hour training session and will have the opportunity to share knowledge and information about our Early Help offers with their colleagues. Introduction to Makaton

‘Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is designed to support spoken language; the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order’ (The Makaton Charity, 2017).

Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) are starting to be recognised as a major barrier in the way of children with care experience, which prevents them from making the progress that is expected of them. However, it does not just affect those in care. In the first UK screening research published in November 2018 it is suggested that between 6 and 17% of the population might be affected.

Training for New Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinators (Early Years)

This is a three day training course for practitioners in Early Years settings who are new to the role of Special Educational Needs Coordinator or shortly to take up that role.
