The Laughter Factor

This course will explore the relationship between positive well being and learning for children. It will explore recent research and consider how laughter for children impacts the context for learning and its consolidation.

Rana Esseily (2015) conducted research on babies as young 18 months old, which showed that laughter resulted in babies learning more of the target actions than those in the control group who were not laughing during the learning period. Esseily hypothesizes that laughter may help with learning because dopamine released while laughing enhances learning.

Early Years Expressive Arts and Design

Using a work of art to engage imagination, communication and learning in early years: exploration, experimentation and discovery.

Music in the Early Years Foundation Stage (Cancelled)

Physical Development in the Early Years

The four home countries’ Chief Medical Officers for England recommend three hours of physical activity a day for early years children (‘Start Active, Stay Active’ report, 2011). It is good practice to have a mix of free play movement and some directed movement using both inside and outside areas.
