Event/course Code SFVSS 19/048
Event/course type Workshop
Event Introduction It is agreed amongst practitioners and academics that the cumulative nature of neglect can have a disastrous impact on all aspects of children’s health and development. Neglect causes great stress to children leading to poor health, educational and social outcomes and is potentially fatal. Kingston & Richmond LSCB believes that all children and young people in our boroughs should have professionals who are able to swiftly identify and respond effectively to child neglect.

The Neglect Toolkit has been developed to is to help practitioners with parents and carers look at and think about the quality of care given to children, and whether the care meets the children’s needs. It will help them to think about concerns as well as identify strengths and where care giving is good.
Event Content Neglect is the one area of safeguarding that practitioners find the most difficult to work with. There is confusion about what constitutes evidence of neglect and disagreement and confusion about thresholds for intervention.

This Neglect Toolkit bitesize session provides professionals with an overarching resource covering the issues surrounding neglect and acts as a risk assessment tool. This bite size session on the neglect tool kit will offer the opportunity for practitioners to become familiar with the toolkit and consider how they can use it in their practice.

If you would like to attend this session please book with directly with the LSCB at Please be advised it is not possible to use days from a Service Level Agreement package for attendance on this session. The LSCB will invoice your organisation in-line with their Terms and Conditions.
Event Learning Outcomes By the end of the session delegates will be able to:

• Explore and become familiar with the Neglect Toolkit
• Analyse and understand how to use the Neglect Toolkit with families
• Clarify how to use the Neglect Toolkit to evidence neglect and as part of supervision when discussing concerns
